Power Savers MA FAQ

What is Power Savers MA?
  • Power Savers MA is a program offered in conjunction with select EV Charger manufacturers, designed to help Massachusetts EV owners reduce the environmental impact of their charging. By participating in the program, you are helping the State of Massachusetts achieve its clean energy goals by aligning your charging with times of higher renewable energy availability. This helps reduce emissions and maintain reliability and affordability for all Massachusetts electricity customers.

  • When participating in Power Savers MA, you’ll retain full control over your charging schedule. To make it simple, just remember to avoid charging from 3-9 pm EST throughout the year. More specifically, participants are encouraged to avoid charging during the following seasonal on-peak windows:

    • March-May: Weekdays from 5pm-9pm EST

    • June-August: Weekdays from 3pm-7pm EST

    • September-November: Weekdays 4pm-8pm EST

    • December-February: Weekdays from 4pm-8pm EST

  • While charging outside of these hours will maximize the environmental impact of your participation, there will be no penalty for charging within these windows.

What are clean energy credits?

By participating in this program, you are helping to shift energy into off peak hours that are more likely to be served by clean energy sources. Under the MA Clean Peak Standard, this helps to generate Clean Peak Energy Credits that MA utilities can use towards their decarbonization mandates. This charging behavior contributes to a cleaner grid.
